Mike Tamaki’s focus is on innovative ideas, with an overriding creative vision and inexhaustible energy to bring people and resources together on new projects. Mike ‘multi-tasks’ the strategic management of Tamaki Heritage Group and has sat on and widely consulted for various industry boards, including the New Zealand Tourism Board, the Maori Subcommittee, the Tourism Industry Association of NZ and the Aotearoa Maori Tourism Board, to name a few.
Mike was a New Zealand tourism award judge over four consecutive years. Mike is driven by a passion for telling our Maori stories in a ways that are compelling, original, dramatic, innovative and always distinct. He is vehemently opposed to duplication of product and is driven by a will to grow the pie – as opposed to fragmenting it further.
He hones quickly and deeply to core Maori stories, themes and the qualities of individuals, regions and tribes and loves nothing more than to drive these original pieces to success. He is a strong and empathetic communicator with all levels of an organisation – able to zero-in quickly on the strengths, personality and character of people, of stories and of products.
Mike is also a recipient of the Ernst and Young International Entrepreneur of the Year (1998) and Sir Paul Harris Fellow award in recognition of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world. Mike is at heart a deeply spiritual and thought-provoking ‘tourism agent provocateur’ and is passionate about profiling Maori and Indigenous tourism development opportunities and issues.

Doug’s primary focus is operations and logistics. Doug manages the day-to-day management of Tamaki Heritage Group across all their key locations.

Doug takes an idea and grows it step by step in to reality, regardless of the challenges along the way. Doug has a distinct and disarming style which leads to firm positive relationships with those he is often called upon to mentor. He is constantly in demand within tourism and other groups, by individuals, businesses and large conference groups. He has a quick humour and pragmatic experience, which frequently cuts quickly to the core of an issue. Doug is solution-focussed, positive and high energy.
