Social Studies & History (Levels 6 – 8)

Develop a rich understanding of New Zealand history, with a visit to the Tamaki Maori Village or the Tamaki Heritage Village. Your students will love the opportunity to develop work and study skills outside of the classroom environment.

  • Classroom introduction - receive a copy of “The Chronicles of Uitara” novel as your pre-visit resource
  • Attend “Journey of Ages” in Rotorua, and:
    • Understand how cultures adapt, survive and change. Understand what impact this has upon rights, roles and responsibilities of individuals and communities
    • Understand how consequences of past events have impacted and affected people in society
    • Understand why peoples’ perspectives on past events differ
    • Understand causes, consequences and explanations of historical events

Christchurch

  • Classroom cultural education introduction - receive a copy of “The Chronicles of Uitara” novel as your pre-visit resource
  • Attend “Lost in Our Own Land” in Christchurch, and:
    • Understand how cultures adapt, survive and change. Understand what impact this has upon rights, roles and responsibilities of individuals and communities
    • Understand how consequences of past events have impacted and affected people in society
    • Understand why peoples’ perspectives on past events differ
    • Understand causes, consequences and explanations of historical events
